"Making the Most of the Mantel"

Someday when we own a home of our own something on my "must have" list is a fireplace with a fabulous mantel. The possibilities are endless! This awesome article from Elle Decor has some great tips. My favorite was from Celerie Kemble:

“A mantel is a central focal point of a room and an easy place to make small changes that help keep a room from feeling stagnant,” says New York designer Celerie Kemble. “Break the symmetry and create visual interest by selecting a collection from a wardrobe of objects: two pretty planters, a pair of candlesticks, a clock, and decorative boxes. You can dress and re-dress your mantel to fit the season using different pieces from your wardrobe.”

...See how amazing it can be? I love it. I think it's best when it's not over done-just a side chair, rug, or throw pillow tossed in the mix. Fabulous.

Keri Russell's Home

Last week I received the latest issue of Elle Decor in the mail and featured in it was Keri Russell's Brooklyn home. It is stunning! The neutral color scheme throughout the entire place is so beautiful. I wanted to share with you my favorite parts. 

The living room- so light and gorgeous. And so full of texture! From the fire place to the light fixture and everything in between. It's elegant yet it still looks comfy. Yum.

The kitchen is my favorite part. Normally I prefer white or lighter colors in the kitchen, but this espresso wood paired with the white countertops and walls is awesome. I love the open shelving for cook books and the lights above the island rock.

What's not to love about this dining area? The chairs, the fire place, and all that natural light.

I could only dream of this closet! The rug, mirror, and those shoe shelves? Amazing.
