Frame Wall

I decided the wall above our couch needed a little sprucing up so I finally put together a little frame wall. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!
(Don't mind the poor lighting, we live in a basement so its hard to get good pictures down here).

The "home sweet home" print was purchased on Etsy and I picked up the SLC Temple print (made by Ashmae) at the Bijou Market. I'd had my eye on that for quite some time so I was excited to finally get it!

I made the canvas art and this M was found in the dollar bin at Michaels months ago.

"Making the Most of the Mantel"

Someday when we own a home of our own something on my "must have" list is a fireplace with a fabulous mantel. The possibilities are endless! This awesome article from Elle Decor has some great tips. My favorite was from Celerie Kemble:
“A mantel is a central focal point of a room and an easy place to make small changes that help keep a room from feeling stagnant,” says New York designer Celerie Kemble. “Break the symmetry and create visual interest by selecting a collection from a wardrobe of objects: two pretty planters, a pair of candlesticks, a clock, and decorative boxes. You can dress and re-dress your mantel to fit the season using different pieces from your wardrobe.”

You should definitely check out the rest of the gallery, they've got some great ideas!

Bijou Time!

It's that time of year again, the Bijou Market is here! I'll be heading down tomorrow and I can hardly wait. Hoping to find some gifts and start to get my Christmas shopping done! Here are a few of my favorite items this year:

This was on my list last year but I still haven't gotten it...maybe this time! Go check out Armelle Jewelry- so pretty!

CinnamonInk has some new prints that I have my eye on. I have one in my baby's crib area and I love it.

I'd love one of these cute ties for my little guy. Check them all out here.

I love this necklace from Turquoise Roots.

Dosen't the colder weather make you want to stay in bed longer? I wouldn't mind cozying up in these ones! Mmm.

Making a Comeback

Lots of things exciting me in the design world as of late so I figured it's about time I get back on here and share them all with you.
We are finally putting together all of the finishing touches on my parent's living room / dining area. It has been quite a journey and although we're not quite there yet, it's coming along beautifully.
We went and picked up these lovlies the other day and they make me just so happy. I wish they were for my own home. :)

Wallpaper Wednesday: Accent Walls

One of my favorite ways to use wallpaper is on an accent wall. No need to cover an entire room, sometimes one wall is all you need!

More finds while furniture shopping

We were out doing a little more furniture shopping the other day and I thought I'd snap some photos of some random items I liked. We had gone to a number of other places with no luck and finally decided to browse Osmond Design (the outlet). I had never been in their stores before and I am definitely learning that you have to give stores a chance. Not only did we find couches extremely close to what I had envisioned, they were under our budget! Fabulous. They let us steal a cushion to take home to see how it looked in the room. It's very important to see the piece you're going to buy in the lighting and space it will be used in. (Just a tip). Anyway, enough talking.
These are all from the Osmond Design Outlet.

Loved these throw pillows.

Always love a glass lamp.

Pretty plate.

Adore this headboard and pillow.

Birds.

And....the couch we decided to purchase. It will come with a matching love seat and we're still on the lookout for a chair. TRY to picture it without black pillows. I think it's going to be fantastic.

I should probably mention that this project is the kitchen / dining / living area in my parents house. Wish me luck! Now that we found the main furniture pieces we can move forward with the rest of the design process. Yay.

Wallpaper Wednesday: Framed

Want to add interest or pattern to your walls but don't want to do something so permanent? Wallpaper placed in frames is a great compromise.

Surprises

Sometimes furniture stores will surprise you! I was furniture shopping this weekend for a project I'm working on and came across this fabulous chair:

Where you might ask? RC Willey! I for one did not know they sold items like this. It was the only one like it in the store. My point is always give stores a chance. They might surprise you with pieces they have that you wouldn't have imagined. Shop around!

Can't wait to keep you updated on this fun project.

Maps.

I know using maps as art {or other forms of decoration} may seem like old news to some of you, but I think it's a classic. I grew up with my dad as a pilot and we used airplane maps for everything. I love them! There are a million variations too. It doesn't have to mean just sticking a map in a frame. Although I do love that too. :)

Just a few favorites I found around the web.

Wallpaper Wednesday: Plaid

Better late than never, right? Plaid wallpaper rocks. I love everything about this photo. Doesnt it make you want fall to come asap? Remember when I talked about wallpapered ceilings? Well that parade home that I was referring to had plaid on the ceiling and it was so cool. Definitely has to be in the right setting but it's awesome when it's pulled off right!

{this photo was found here. such a lovely blog!}

Today I want to let you all know about the awesome Friday Freebies offered over at Love, Kelsie Rae. I know Kelsie from high school and can I just say she is amazingly talented! She does graphic design as well as photography, and you will love her work. On Fridays she offers a free item to down load and print. I'm a big fan of the prints, naturally. They are perfect to print off, stick in a frame, and hang on your wall or set on a shelf/table.

Two of my favorite kitchen prints:

Open Shelving {in the kitchen}

I think open shelving in a kitchen is so pretty. Of course you have to be very organized {or just never use the things on the shelves that you are displaying. :) } Here are some inspirations:

Florals

Something I learned in my textiles class is that nature never goes out of style. Design has been inspired by it all throughout history...so it's pretty classic. And what do we all love in nature? Florals! Of course the patterns & trends of florals change over time but if it's up to date I think it's fabulous. Here are a few of my favorite finds.
